An NBCChicago sports anchor since 2008 Daryl Hawks found dead thursday morning in Atlanta. Hawks previously worked at NBC Bay Area, from April 2005 until departing for Chicago.
According to the sources Hawks was covering the NBA playoff game between the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks. Hotel employees discovered him in his room at approximately 9:30 a.m. after he missed a wake-up call.
He was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Fulton County medical examiner's office said that Hawks was pronounced dead at 11:48 a.m. at Emory University Medical Center.
Hawks, who joined the station in 2008, was married with two children.
Station Manager and Vice President of News Frank Whittake said in a statement, "We are all stunned right now. Daryl was a great member of our sports team, and was so excited about covering the Bulls during this playoff run".
